Belkıs (Iulianus?) Column
The Belkıs Column, named after the neighborhood that existed in the area during the Ottoman period, was relocated to its current position in October 1934 after tilting due to the construction of surrounding buildings. The column is depicted immediately in front of Hasan Paşa Bath in the painting View of Ankara. Although widely known among the public as the Belkıs Column, there is no definitive information regarding the individual in whose honor it was erected. However, it is most commonly associated with Emperor Iulianus (A.D. 361–363), who passed through Ankara during his Parth campaign. Originally composed of 15 drums, the column lost one drum during the relocation process due to damage. Consequently, when it was re-erected, it was placed on a base with only 14 drums, reaching a total height of 12.94 meters.
